Old General store -Wip

This is my first illustration where I am using an old general store , actually a *Candy Store*!

I am not done yet but almost there. There is a story behind this but I can not share yet so for now I will leave you with the picture and hope you too can feel the simplicity of a time that will never go back.....

This illustration reminds me so much of a little general store I used to go to with my grandmother on saturdays sometimes. You could buy socks, food, feed for your animals, yard ornaments, a tire in the back, and grandma got her hair done there..but only on Saturdays! It had old wood floors, that creeked, big old barrels of pickles, icecream, I remember my grandpa buying tobacco in a thin tall can, and leaving his boots there for repair once! .. just about anything you wanted, on a small scale. A man and wife ran this store, and lived in the back, it was called Fagans market, in Effingham Il. This was in the late 1960's when I was very young, maybe only about 6 or 8 years old. I can almost smell that old place. Thanks for the memories, and the artwork is just beautiful Pat! xoxo Love U :) Christel

TITA!!! I have been sick and away from the computer but here I am, at your WONDERFUL old-fashioned candy store that indeed, is a rarity. BUT! In Stillwater and Excelsior Minnesota, we have three of these old time stores that still sell penny candies and the kids and adults alike LOVE all the treasures within. You have captured however, a lifestyle that will never exist again in the mainstream. But how lovely that we can create our own and even carve out a corner somewhere in our lives to give this special life to someone....again, your work is exquisite, and I miss you so.....It is Friday, my last day before TWO WEEKS OF BLISS.....I hope! The builders are continuing to work and get the siding on the exterior. I hope the roof is next to help protect from the SNOW that just keeps coming!!!

MY LOVE TO YOU DEAREST SISTER!!! Nita

What a beautiful illustration Pat... I love the ~light~.. This does bring back memories.. Actually in Temecula, CA you can find country stores much like this . They have taffy in the barrels and candy in jars..
This was a real treat.. I hope you are enjoying your Christmas season.
Blessings,
Penny

Tita my dearest,

Oh, seeing your comment just made me so happy! Dearest one, thank you for just being you...the greatest gift of all is to have friends and people that you love back....that is an extra blessing from the ability to simply love and not expect it in return, but when we need it, it is people like you that really make a cloudy day bright. MILLE MERCIS my sweet sister, for your beautiful words of encouragement and kindness about my silly theatre; but that is WHO I AM...a "counter clockwise thinker." May this day rain blessings upon you as you stay cozy with your children, go to church or just create. I am with you in spirit.....Nita

Ah , I like your new header atop.
We had a store, when I was a young child in the late 1950's, which was a throwback, from the General Store. It was like something out of the "Waltons" or "Little House on the Prairie", with the beautiful wooden and glass cases filled with candies and such. It was very dark inside, yet cozy with a woodstove and all. We would stand at the counter and point to the penny candy we wished to purchase,it was just like the early 1900's, though I didn't know that at the time. Your picture brought back that wonderful memory of this long forgotten place, thanks!

What a sentimental postcard painting you have created!
I think it reflects the deep longings we have of simple times. Such as a community store where you can meet friends and stop to pass a few moments of goodwill with one another during busy days. Now, we have our blog spaces to reach out to one another and I am so thankful for that!!
Merry Merry Christmas, dear friend. May the Christmas Child smile beautifully upon your family...lovingly, Rose
